Questions:

1. Tell us the synopsis of your book series.

TALES FROM THE VIRGIN VAULT is a new adult romance series exploring young women navigating Capitol Hill’s hella hot, alpha males. Each stand-alone book in the series involves a recent college graduate relocating to the Capitol Hill women’s dormitory, nicknamed the Virgin Vault, to pursue a career. Her well-laid plans run awry when she meets the typical alpha male living the chronic playboy lifestyle. Fans of the new adult romance genre will enjoy similar elements of a sexy executive, a sassy girl determined to live life her way, and many fireworks.

2. What do you feel is the most unique aspect of your story?

The nickname ‘Virgin Vault’ is something my friends and I used to affectionately call our Capitol Hill home because it was a dormitory solely for young, single girls. The series explores the transformation of innocent, young women starting their careers in the complex and cutthroat world of Capitol Hill. Each story involves the conversion of a young woman who is initially reticent about dating or pursuing a relationship until she develops and explores strong feelings for a smoking hot, bad boy. I needed the play on words to capture the series’ essence and ‘virgin’ came to mind. A virgin conjures up the image of someone new to, or inexperienced in, a specified field as well as is synonymous with innocence.

What makes this series distinctive is that Washington, D.C. is full of newbie Capitol Hill staff trying to make their mark. They are a walking clean slate of no regret—not jaded and eager to learn. I wanted to capture that sense of inexperience and awe of Capitol Hill’s majestic world—like Oz—untapped by so many people so it became a character in my story. Same with the Virgin Vault dormitory inhabitants—it is a world within a world so to speak.

3.    Tell us about your main character(s).

I wanted the series to be loosely based on my first impression of working on Capitol Hill, complete with a smoking hot romance.

In the first book, INVOKE ME – Recent graduate Lacy Martin wants to spend the summer at the beach powering down her mind. Her parents want her to pursue a suitable career. Lacy hates politics, but accepts a summer U.S. Senate internship to disentangle her hovering parents from her life. She relocates to the Capitol Hill women’s residence, nicknamed the Virgin Vault. Lacy’s best-laid plans run awry when she meets her smoking hot boss, Sawyer James. In this first book of the series, we are introduced to a host of characters such as Lacy’s friends and coworkers, as well as Capitol Hill and the Virgin Vault are unveiled through her ingénue eyes. She is like ‘Dorothy in Oz,’ debating her options to remain and pursue both a relationship and a career in this majestic Capitol Hill world or return to the comforts of home and family.

In the second book, YIELD TO ME, I explore exactly what happened with Lacy’s best friend Kaley Barrington and her weekend encounter with hella hot Emerson Steele or it is Steele Emerson? The reader will unearth why Kaley flaked out on Lacy in INVOKE ME . . . and the reason Kaley won’t carry a Ben Franklin c-note in her wallet ever again. I am tickled by this story because the characters were fun and I looked forward to hanging out with them during the writing process. Kaley is a kick-ass sort of girl, the opposite of her demure friend Lacy, who is only sassy in her mind, and I really enjoyed getting to know her.

The third book, PERSUADE ME, takes on a different bent. This book involves a legislative assistant, Delaney, who has this amazing throaty, sultry laugh that shoots straight into every man’s libido, but she is unattached and never been kissed. She works with Kaley and Lacy, and is stalked by a crazy constituent who is addicted to her voice and creates scary fantasies about her. A hot—with a capital ‘H’ Hot—Capitol Hill officer, Riley Kennedy, comes to her rescue. In this third book, I wanted to highlight the real danger some staff face working on Capitol Hill—I had my share of crazy constituents contacting the Senate office! I am now an expert at zapping microwaves from their brains with my imaginary ray gun, AKA the zero button tapped four times on the telephone switchboard…no joke.

4.    What genre(s) is this and whom do you think will enjoy reading it?

TALES FROM THE VIRGIN VAULT has mass appeal to the romance genre fan; most particularly the new adult genre fan. The Virgin Vault series grapples with issues such as: leaving home, making grown-up decisions, trusting yourself out in the ‘real world,’ your first real job, tackling valid decisions such as sex before matrimony, missing your family and the safety net their love provides, etc. Then, let’s not forget, there is a smoking hot romance, of course. I really enjoyed writing those intimate scenes. I think my husband got a tad jealous for a while there!

5.    Have you received any feedback on it yet, and if so, what was it?

I completed my first series manuscript – INVOKE, and have begun shopping it around. I am involved in two book clubs for personal enjoyment and a writing critique group through the Atlanta Writers Club. I also received six awards from the Atlanta Writers Club for “Best Pitch” for the INVOKE manuscript. And, I was a finalist in the Fire & Ice Contest through the Chicago-North RWA Chapter and the Maggie Award for Excellence through the Georgia Romance Writers. I have shared my manuscript for advanced review copies and feedback has been very positive; particularly ‘my unique voice’ in capturing the new adult genre ‘feel’ to the story.

6.    Tell us something about yourself that most of your readers may not know.

I am a former Legislative Assistant to two U.S. Senators, with several years experience writing policy papers and lobbying Congress for a national nonprofit. Most of the series is fiction, but it is loosely based on my first impression of moving into a Washington, D.C. women’s dormitory and working on Capitol Hill. Some of the incidents involving constituents were experiences I had while working on the Hill; like zapping imaginary microwaves implanted by the government, processing flag requests and scheduling Senate Gallery and White House tours, etc.

Maybe more interesting is this fact: growing up, my family was very political – I couldn’t resist adding a few incidents involving my family into Lacy’s background. For example, my father was Chairman of his local political party. When he brought me to register to vote, I opted to register as an Independent instead of for my family’s political party. I mainly did it to annoy him because he expected me to just do as he advised when we walked into the building.  I wanted to make my own decision, albeit uninformed at the time. He freaked! He firmly believed my one vote could affect his political party’s primary! Let’s just say, it took him a while to calm down from that little stunt. My mother ran interference for a while..!

7.    What’s next for you?

I am almost complete with writing the TALES FROM THE VIRGIN VAULT Series. In addition, I am developing another series called the MOODY BEACH MEMOIRS Series, which will have some overlapping characters from the Virgin Vault Series, but will take place in New England where the Virgin Vault characters hail from.

8.    Where can people interact with you and find out more about you and your books?
